What's Your IAQ?
What is my IAQ? How do I find out what my IAQ is? Can my IAQ be improved and how?
If you find yourself asking these questions about your home, you're not alone. IAQ stands for Indoor Air Quality, and every home or buildings' is different. With tighter home construction, indoor air quality has declined dramatically. Statistics show that the most common problem is particle allergens (dust, dander, pollen, spores, bacteria, etc.) which can be found in 91% of all homes. This is because the air in your home recirculates fifty to seventy five times per day. The Environmental Protection Agency reports that indoor air can contain up to 70 times more pollution than outdoor air. These contaminants are found in drip pans, ductwork, coils and humidifiers of the HVAC system or drawn in from outdoors.
Imagine your ductwork as the respiratory system of your house. All the things that affect your breathing such as dust, mold, pet hair and dander also affect your heating and cooling system. They create decreased flow in the duct work and they also decrease the efficiency of your unit. The best way to combat this is multi tiered: duct cleaning, UV light, and high efficiency filtration.
